    Jose received his Bachelor’s in Biology from Cal Poly Pomona. Jose currently serves the public and the agricultural industry as the Assistant Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights & Measures in Contra Costa County. As an assistant, Jose oversees a broad range of responsibilities including general department administration, budget and finance, programs management, and personnel. His professional interests focus on staff development, department operational efficiencies, and stakeholder relationships. His current projects include working on the next budget for the department and helping develop new local ordinance for industrial help cultivation. In addition, Jose currently serves as the CASAP President for the California Association of Standards and Agricultural Professionals. During his free time, Jose enjoys going on long walks and thinking about everything, home improvement projects, and volunteering.

    Katherine Vanderwall

    Past President

    Katherine  received her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the University of California, Davis.  Katherine currently serves the public as the Deputy Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights & Measures for Lake County.  Being part of a small county, Katherine oversees all agricultural and weights & measures programs.   Her professional interests focus on educating the public on the roles and responsibilities of the Agriculture and Weights & Measures department through county wide annual events which include the Lake County Ag Venture Program and the Ag and Natural Resource Day.   In addition, Katherine currently serves as the Past President for the California Association of Standards and Agricultural Professionals.  During her free time, Katherine enjoys being active (running, weightlifting, hiking), photography, hunting, volunteering in her community and spending time with her family.

    Alex received his Bachelor’s of  Science in Entomology from the University of California, Davis. Alex currently serves the public as an Agricultural Biologist/Weights & Measures Inspector for the County of Solano and is responsible for Pesticide Use Enforcement, High Risk, and Pest Exclusion. His professional interests focus on emerging agricultural pests of concern, and his current projects include sitting on an advisory panel for an agriculture learning pathway at a local high school and developing a comprehensive reference insect collection. In addition, Alex currently serves as the Vice-President (North) for the California Association of Standards and Agricultural Professionals. During his free time, Alex enjoys camping, collecting insects, and insect macro-photography.

    Ameer Atrash received his bachelor’s degree in Biology from the California State University, Channel Islands.  Ameer currently serves the public as a Supervising Agricultural Inspector/Biologist for the County of Ventura. As a Supervising Agricultural Inspector/Biologist, Ameer works in the Pest Exclusion division where he is responsible for enforcing laws regarding the import and export of agricultural commodities. His professional interests focus on agriculture, administrative law, public policy, technology and organizational management. In addition, Ameer currently serves as the Vice President- South for the California Association of Standards and Agricultural Professionals. During his free time, Ameer enjoys reading, volunteering and golfing.

    David Brown received his Bachelors of Science in Agricultural Business from California State University, Chico. David currently serves the public as a Deputy Agricultural Commissioner/ Sealer of Weights and Measures for the County of Yolo. As a Deputy Agricultural Commissioner/ Sealer of Weights and Measures, David manages the Pest Prevention/ Exclusion Division where he oversees the Phytosanitary Export/Fieldwalk program, USPS High Risk and Dog Team Program, Detection Trapping program and Nursery program. His professional interests focus on Yolo Encourages Success (YES) team member within Yolo County, and his current projects include the implementation of performance standards within the county of Yolo . In addition, David currently serves as the Treasurer for the California Association of Standards and Agricultural Professionals. David was recently honored with the 2019 CASAP Distinguished Service Award. During his free time, David enjoys outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and coaching youth sports such as baseball/softball and participating/running the booth at his children’s local High School football games.

    Mary Canchola received her  Master’s of Business Administration Degree with an emphasis in Executive Management from California State University, Stanislaus. Mary also received her Bachelor’s in Agriculture Studies with an emphasis in Permaculture from California State University, Stanislaus. Mary currently serves the public as Agricultural Weights and Measures Inspector for the County of Stanislaus. As a Agricultural Weights and Measures Inspector,  Mary works in the Pesticide Use Enforcement division where she is responsible for conducting pesticide related investigations, issuing pesticide permits, reviewing pesticide use reports, reviewing notices of intent, registering pest control businesses, registering pest control advisors and ensuring the proper, safe and efficient use of pesticides as well as protection of public health and safety . Her professional interests focus on public outreach, compliance inspections,  and her current projects include reviewing pesticide use report errors and developing innovative ways to train incoming inspectors. In addition, Mary currently serves as the Secretary for the California Association of Standards and Agricultural Professionals. During her free time, Mary enjoys cooking, crafting, hiking and volunteering in her community.

    David Navarro received his Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Chemistry from the University of California San Diego (UCSD). David currently serves the public as a Supervising Agriculture/Standards Inspector (ASI) for the County of San Diego and oversees the Export Certification as well as the Light Brown Apply Moth (LBAM) Regulatory Programs. His professional interests include mentoring new inspectors and helping  agricultural customers achieve export regulatory compliance. In addition, David currently serves as a CASAP Webmaster for the California Association of Standards and Agricultural Professionals. David was recently honored with a National Association of Counties (NACo) Achievement Award for his design and development of the iTrApp; The county’s first custom trapping app for the Pierce’s Disease Control Program.  During his free time, David enjoys managing his personal business, playing competitive softball, and designing the next DIY project.

    Christopher received his Bachelor of Science degree in
    Agricultural Business & Economics from California State University
    Fresno. Christopher currently serves the public as the Assistant Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights & Measures for Tulare County. As an Assistant Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer, Christopher assists the Commissioner with overseeing all staff, programs, budget, and general administration of the department. Christopher's professional background and experience comes from the moving up through the ranks in Pest Exclusion & Standardization programs. In addition, Christopher
    currently serves as a Member at Large  for the California Association of Standards and Agricultural Professionals Board of Directors. Christopher has obtained his CSAC Executive Credentials, participate on USDA Phytosanitary working groups, attend various leadership & supervisory trainings, member of local FFA Advisory Committee, and has been on the CASAP BOD for 2 years now. During his free time, Christopher enjoys volunteering for local community events, assisting with FFA judging contests; but mainly spending time with his wife (Myca), daughter (Korbin), son (Emmett), and their dog (Toby) whenever possible and traveling to the beach during their free time.

    Rudy received his bachelor’s degree in Health Science, with a concentration in Environmental Health from California State University, San Bernardino. Rudy currently serves the public as an Agricultural and Standards Investigator IV for the County of Riverside. As an Agricultural and Standards Investigator, Rudy works in several Agriculture, as well as Weights and Measures programs. Rudy currently serves as Member at Large for the California Association of Standards and Agricultural Professionals. During his free time, Rudy enjoys camping, traveling, and riding ATV’s.

    Ryan Fernandez received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Environmental Studies from California State University Sacramento. Ryan currently serves the public as a Senior Agricultural & Standards Inspector for the Placer County Agricultural Commissioner’s Office. As a Senior Agricultural & Standards Inspector, Ryan works in the Weights and Measures, Pesticide, and Exclusion Division where is responsible for Placer Counties, large compacity scales, restricted materials permits, pesticide use enforcement, and invasive weed programs. Ryan’s professional interests focus on improving programs to run more efficiently and effectively by incorporating new strategies and technology. His current projects include working with beekeepers in Placer County by providing outreach to register and meet the requirements of Placer Counties new apiary ordinance as well as working on improving the counties noxious weed eradication program. In addition, Ryan currently serves as the member at large for the California Association of Standards and Agricultural Professionals. During his free time, Ryan enjoys hunting, fishing, and traveling with his wife.

    Molly Miller received both her Bachelors Degree in Agricultural Science as well as her Masters Degree in Agricultural Education from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly SLO). Molly currently serves the public as an Agriculture/Weights and Measures Inspector for the County of Santa Barbara. As an Agriculture/Weights and Measures Inspector, Molly covers both Agriculture and Weights and Measures where she conducts inspections at carrier facilities, nurseries, cannabis sites, grocery stores, gas stations, LPG dispensers, and more. Her professional interests focus on cannabis compliance, high-risk pest detection, entomology, and education. Her current projects include conducting County Business License Inspections for cannabis cultivators, CalCannabis inspections, remapping Glassy-winged sharpshooter (GWSS) traps, and a variety of Weights and Measures inspections. In addition, Molly currently serves as a CASAP Member at Large for the California Association of Standards and Agricultural Professionals. Molly was recently honored with a Service Award for her contribution to the CDFA license study-material project now hosted on the CASAP website. She also completed all eight CDFA licensing exams in her first year of employment as an Agriculture/Weights and Measures inspector. During her free time, Molly enjoys off-road racing, cultivating her garden, and spending time with her schnauzer "Milton."

Monica currently serves the public as a Supervisory Ag Standards Inspector for the County of San Diego. As a supervisor, Monica works in the Ag Standards Division where she supervises the Industrial Hemp, Direct Marketing, Organic, and Standardization programs. In addition, Monica currently serves as a Member at Large for the California Association of Standards and Agricultural Professionals. During her free time, Monica enjoys running, hiking, and reading.
