CASAP 2025: "Embracing Change and Collaborative Growth"

The CASAP 2025 conference, held under the theme "Embracing Change and Collaborative Growth," brought together over 160 members for an engaging and informative event. Pre-conference tours were a highlight, with more than 100 attendees exploring a variety of fascinating sites. These included Winery Tours, a visit to the Strawberry Research Center, animal nutrition and meat facilities, a Plant Conservatory, and a Blueberry Farm, offering a unique hands-on learning experience for participants.

Day 1 of the conference featured a series of insightful presentations. The day kicked off with a warm welcome from David Aguayo, Assistant Commissioner/Sealer from San Luis Obispo County.

One of the key discussions was on Mental Health and Wellness, presented by Christopher Greer, Assistant Commissioner/Sealer, and CASAP President shedding light on the importance of well-being in the workplace.


Another standout session was led by Dr. Vishal Shinde, CEO and Research Director, who provided crucial insights into bio-performative product testing research and its significance for growers and the industry.


Matt Douglas, Supervising Special Investigator, offered an update from the Department of Weights and Measures, followed by an engaging session on Professional Public Speaking and Communication, led by Dr. Ann DeLay, Professor of Agricultural Education and Communications at Cal Poly.


The afternoon included an update from Karen Morrison, Chief Deputy of the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (CDPR), offering attendees the latest regulatory developments. This was followed by valuable Breakout Sessions led by the CASAP Board of Directors.


The day wrapped up with Dr. Robert Flores delivering a thought-provoking session on Crucial Conversations and Engaging with the Public, leaving attendees inspired and equipped with essential communication skills.



Day 2 of the CASAP 2025 conference continued the momentum of insightful discussions and knowledge sharing under the theme "Embracing Change and Collaborative Growth." Attendees were treated to a series of presentations that covered critical updates, industry standards, and key developments shaping the future of agricultural and regulatory work.


The day began with an update from Juan Hidalgo, CACASA President, who provided an overview of the association's progress and upcoming initiatives. His presentation emphasized the importance of continued collaboration across agencies and organizations to ensure the success of the agriculture and pest control sectors.


Kurt Floren, Los Angeles County Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer, and Jose Arriaga, Orange County Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer, then took the stage for an engaging session on Navigating the Weights & Measures Standards Setting System. Their expertise in this area helped attendees understand the complexities and challenges of maintaining consistency in measurement standards, offering practical insights for navigating the regulatory landscape.


Next, Hyrum Eastman provided important CDFA and CDPR Liaison Updates, discussing key regulatory developments and how they affect both industry professionals and regulators. His session was invaluable in ensuring everyone was up-to-date on the latest changes that impact their work.


The afternoon sessions featured Karen Ross, CDFA Secretary, who delivered a comprehensive CDFA Update, highlighting the department's ongoing efforts to support the state's agricultural community. Her remarks focused on strategic initiatives, regulatory actions, and the department’s role in advancing sustainability and innovation within California's agriculture sector.

Finally, Chris Greer, Area Cooperative Extension Advisor in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) at UC Cooperative Extension, shared his expertise on emerging pest management strategies.


Concluding remarks by CASAP President Christopher Greer reinforced the importance of collaboration, innovation, and staying informed about industry standards. The valuable insights shared throughout the conference empowered attendees to adapt to changing landscapes and continue fostering growth within the agricultural and regulatory standards in our careers.


CASAP 2025 was a resounding success, fostering both collaboration and growth among industry professionals, with a focus on embracing change and enhancing professional development.
